Here’s a shot of last night’s dinner — sushirific! It was a little odd to take a picture of dinner, but hey, there’s an awful lot of work required to pull it off so why not snap a few shots?

Granted, I’m no expert in Japanese cuisine, but I had fun mixing and matching ingredients.

I jumped right into the deep end of the pool this time and went for a uramaki [or inside-out] style roll first. [It's the one that's dappled with the toasted black sesame seeds]. It’s my twist on the ever popular Philadelphia roll. Instead of using the typical smoked salmon, I substituted summer sausage and added slivers of onion.

I also made a couple of pieces of nigiri, and sliced up some of the tuna for sashimi as well. I think my favorite maki was the tuna-mango-cream cheese-avocado roll. Although my use of gai-lan was a good choice, as it paired well with heartier ingredients like the shitake mushrooms and wasabi mayo.

Many thanks go to my mom for my love of cooking, and more importantly for the sashimi-grade tuna!

Oh, and a big congrats to her on her recent promotion to VP. :)

You only have to worry about these guys stealing from you, methinks. :)
